This online hairdressing course for colourists explores a variety of ombre, dip-dye and balayage techniques to create the current hair colour trends for blended and contrating tones throughout the lengths of the hair. Featuring video tutorials from Madeleine Murphy, Colour Director of London’s Ena Salon, former Vidal Sassoon educator and Saco Colour Director Charmaine Piche and Artistic Director of Aveda London Bruno Elorrioroz, the course provides a diverse selection of techniques that all colour technicians need to know to stay on trend. On completion you can download, print and share an exclusive City & Guilds CPD Certificate of Recognition.
Ena Salon’s Madeleine Murphy presents lesson 1 to teach you how to perform a Dip Dye Ombre technique using diagonal sectioning in four quadrants and backcombing. The final result is soft, sun blessed tones providing a natural grown out look.
In lesson 2, Charmaine Piche demonstrates a jigsaw sectioning technique with foils to isolate sections and colours and is an essential pattern to learn for the salon. Within the video Charmaine highlights the importance of colour placement and choice of colour palette and for this look she incorporates soft, golden and rich velvet browns to produce a blend of natural rich glossy tones that hit the recent trend for ‘bronde’ hair colour. The final result is colour fluidity to support the movement in the haircut.
Charmaine Piche's next colouring tutorial is a variation of the balayage technique and begins by placing the colour in the underneath of the hair with a freehand technique. Then, colour is added throughout the hair using a variety of techniques, finishing with the use of fingers to diffuse and spread the colour. The result is sun kissed locks on a dark base using strategic colour placement.
In lesson 4 Bruno Elorrioroz presents a hair colouring tutorial teaching a variation of the ombre technique using a soft blend of colours. Within the video Bruno demonstrates a Level 4 root application, bleach enlightener placed by hand, and a deposit of semi-permanent colour to the mid-lengths and ends. The end result is high shine and and glow for a luxurious colour to complement the texture of the hair.
Madeleine Murphy completes the course with a demonstration of a basic dip dye technique using a variety of red tones. The video features essential advice on colour choice, placement and diffusion. The final result is a rich palette of deep mulberry and vivid reds that takes the dip dye trend to its boldest level and is a youthful salon favourite.
