It’s the big final of our fantasy hair competition… we’ve seen 20 style teams come and do battle, we’ve seen 40 eye-popping hairstyles, now our 5 finalists have arrived back at the salon for the ultimate hairy showdown.

The first challenge of the day is the CHAMELEON HAIR CHALLENGE – to make the texture of the hair look like something completely different – this time only the top 3 teams are going through to the final challenge.

Stylist Amy Russell has dreamed up a do that’s inspired by bees with a giant yellow bee-hive that includes a honeycomb style eye mask and real honey – will it be a sweet style or a sticky mess?

Chris Gatt has been inspired by metal and attempts a sculptured style that’s embellished with gold but will it shine with the judges?

Alexander Turnbull is trying to make his hair a real chameleon with every texture technique in the land – but what does a mirrored, prawn teapot actually look like?

Laura Kulick’s vision is a grassfire sprouting with new buds – it’s the circle of life in a hairdo but will all the fancy foliage bag her a place in the final 3?

Anoushka Romanenkova tries to make her hair mimic the earth by using real mud in her backcombed style – it’s a big risk but will it pay off?

Only three teams go through, two teams are eliminated.

Extreme Hair Wars Theme – Defying Gravity

In the final challenge, our three teams are attempting the toughest challenge of all – creating a style that truly defies gravity.

One team aim for the sky with a giant tower of spongey donuts to craft their Jack in the Beanstalk inspired hair-do, complete with giant and magic beans – can a 32inch high hair tower really stay up?

Another team plan a dandelion blowing in the wind using a frame they decorate with poms-poms but will the real hair defy gravity enough?

Shunning props altogether others plan a hairdo that literally floats, using only heat and hairspray – the hair defies gravity but is it fantastical enough to win?

At the final furlong the rivalry truly hots up and there’s drama in the judging.
