Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture 2017

At Paris Haute Couture it’s not only the dresses that make us swoon, the hair is always so beautifully crafted. It’s often easy to dismiss the international runway looks as being irrelevant to your clients – real women who don’t have time in the real, everyday world, that these looks require.

But some of the looks can be modified for the salon and you can show your clients quick tips for home. Many of these looks also provided fantastic inspiration for bridal and occasion hair. We’ve taken a look at the shows and chosen our favourites, with tips to recreate them in the salon.

Damien Boissinot for Viktor & Rolf

For Viktor & Rolf, Damien Boissinot brushed hair off the face and created soft mermaid waves at the back. An easy style to recreate by taking a section of hair, wrapping once around a tong and then moving the tong up and down the hair creating waves not curls.

Sam McKnight for Chanel

Sam McKnight always gives us something elegant for Chanel and this season he created a high parting then slicked back hair into a neat and tidy updo. This is a great style for those clients who need to be uber smart for work and you are the one to help them master it.

Stephen Jones for Dior and Orlando Pita at Elie Saab

There is always hair adornment at the couture. Obviously the Stephen Jones head-dress at Christian Dior is a little over the top for most of us mere mortals but pare it back to a strand of silk flowers, and it’s an ideal bridal adornment. The metal headband as used by Orlando Pita at Elie Saab is a perfect accessory for any occasion.

Guido Palau for Christian Dior and Rudi Lewis for Armani Privé

Ponytails are a runway favourite at all the international shows and it’s not easy creating a perfectly neat pony. Guido Palau created his with pre-Raphaelite waves for Christian Dior whilst Rudi Lewis parted hair on one side to show off his messed-up ponytails for Armani Privé.

As hairdressers we gain inspiration from everywhere and these international shows offer so many gorgeous styles which we can translate for use in the salon, keeping our clients always looking current and so feeling fabulous – which keeps them coming back for more!
